About
Curiosity, mystery, wonder, and beauty. These are the elements that compel me to paint. All around me, I see breathtaking images, making it difficult to select a subject. The more I paint, the stronger the desire grows to capture this intense beauty I see every day. I have in me a sense of responsibility to show this beauty I see to the world. The mystery, richness and loveliness of God’s creation takes my breath away every day—and it’s this beauty I strive to capture when I paint.
I work primarily in oils, often using transparent layers and including a figure in most works. I feel this is important to give the viewer a reference point, and add humanity to a landscape. Oil is my medium of choice because of its inherent richness it lends to works, and also because of its timeless quality. I am heavily influenced by masters such as John Singer Sargent, Maxfield Parrish, NCWyeth, and John Waterhouse. I start each painting by toning the canvas, then sketching out the composition with a small brush. From there, I lay in the larger areas and begin to let the painting develop. I never know quite where the painting will go, but the process of creation is the joy of painting—part of the adventure. I look at each piece as a storybook page out of my life, revealing some of the beauty, richness and depth I have experienced.
I have had the privilege of studying portraiture at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. In the future, I would like to go on for further study in painting, and continue my career as a gallery artist. I am a perpetual student of life, and look forward with curiosity and wonder to the future.
I would like to thank you personally for visiting my site today. I hope you come away enriched and blessed by what you see.
